Welcome!

I’m Abby Jorgensen.

I am a professor
of sociology and health care ethics
who works as a doula and keeps chickens.

Any of that sound interesting?

I am passionate about scholarship on family, politics and culture, and methodologies. This includes fertility intentions, understandings of family/gender/children, policies and norms that impact perinatal health, arguments about what role society and government should play in family life and vice versa, and more.

This passion has taken the forms of:

  • researching the sociological phenomena that relate to families and politics (and the methods researchers use to study them);
  • teaching to share my love of learning and fan its flame in others;
  • and service, in terms of mentorship, advocacy, and community engagement.
